Career Journey

A conversation with Ariel Anthony.

Why have you chosen to make your career at Husch Blackwell?

Because I had my daughter prior to law school, work-life balance was important to me even before I joined Husch Blackwell. When I was a summer associate, I noticed that many of the attorneys were married and had children, so I anticipated the culture might lend itself to making my own schedule to a certain extent. And it has. I have the flexibility to adjust my start and end times, while still developing a great work product for the partners.

What is one thing that makes Husch Blackwell special?

Associates are given meaningful opportunities. For example, as a second-year associate, I was designated second chair of a trial. I gave opening statements and examined witnesses. At large firms, newer associates typically are not given that opportunity. Husch Blackwell thought I was ready – and, ultimately, we were victorious!

Describe the mentoring and coaching support you have received at Husch Blackwell.

While every associate is appointed a formal mentor, you’re encouraged to develop additional mentor relationships on your own, which I’ve done. I can run ideas, questions or concerns past them. For example, I’ve sought guidance on how to effectively maneuver within the firm and how to build relationships with firm leadership.
