Career Journey

A conversation with Blake Rooney.

Describe your career trajectory.

I spent the first decade of my career working for a Fortune 100 agribusiness conglomerate in information technology (IT), then managed IT operations and business intelligence for an ad agency in Dallas. Since 2006, I have helped lead Husch Blackwell’s technology organization. I’ve had a diverse experience and can say unequivocally that I’ve never worked with better people than those at Husch Blackwell!

What is one thing that makes Husch Blackwell special?

There is a real sense of belonging to a team. The organization cares about you, your professional development and your family.

What is your advice for a new hire?

Get out and meet the people! There are a lot of brilliant, highly motivated and friendly people here. Get involved in the activities in your office, help the firm give back to our communities and use the resources and benefits that are available to you.

How has Husch Blackwell supported you in achieving work/life balance?

The firm has adapted to the idea that work is more than a place where you report each day. I’ve been able to work from home when necessary to support the needs of my family. Being able to offer flexibility to my team has been a big win.

How does Husch Blackwell encourage your potential and professional development?

My direct supervisor and the firm as a whole were unbelievably supportive when I chose to go back to school and get my executive MBA. The firm paid for part of my degree and was flexible when necessary in supporting the demands on my time. A couple of firm leaders even participated in projects and spoke to my classes.
