Situation
Our client, a Fortune 500 chemical manufacturer, was faced with a multiplaintiff toxic tort case. Plaintiffs alleged that they contracted non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma as a result of ingesting chlorinated aromatic compounds through the food chain. (Client ceased manufacturing and selling the chemical nearly 40 years earlier.)
Result
After a four-week trial, a California state court jury rejected plaintiffs’ claims that chlorinated aromatic compounds caused plaintiffs’ non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This was a significant precedent-setting victory, as it was the first food chain case to go to trial.
