Situation
In 2008, H&R Block’s largest franchisee owned all of the tax preparation company’s locations in Oklahoma and more than half of those in Texas. The franchisee decided to sell all of its locations to the highest bidder but needed Block’s consent to any proposed sale. Block wanted to expand its presence in those states, but the franchisee had exclusive rights.
Result
Our team guided Block in completing the acquisition of all of the franchise locations, increasing its presence in each state. This transaction also allowed Block to maximize its perceived potential penetration in Oklahoma and Texas.
