Patent prosecution work involving semiconductor processing methods, LCD and LED, including more than 1,000 U.S. patents for a single client.
Worked with management, in-house counsel and human resources personnel of software company to provide employee relations strategy, implement new policies and employee code of conduct, and prepare new employee handbook.
Defended a California-based startup company against patent infringement and misappropriation of trade secret claims relating to semiconductor technology used in cell phones. Achieved favorable results for client.
Secured a $60 million contract for Securus Technologies Inc. to provide phone service to the Missouri Department of Corrections. A competitor challenged the award but Securus prevailed at trial in the Cole County Circuit Court.
Represented leading provider of Microsoft Office integration software and services for law firms in patent infringement case brought in U.S. District Court, District of Oregon, related to computer tool bar customization technology, resulting in favorable settlement.
Defended a leading automation technology client in two product liability cases in Colorado state court. Plaintiffs alleged permanent injuries from a malfunction of a high-rise escalator at Coors Field when the escalator began speeding. The client supplied a component of the escalator, which the elevator inspector’s report concluded caused the malfunction. Developed testimony and other evidence that client’s component had nothing to do with the malfunction of the escalator. After depositions of plaintiffs’ expert and the elevator inspector, plaintiffs dismissed client from both cases with prejudice.
Assisted a publicly traded Canadian company on benefits matters in the expansion of its U.S. cell phone holdings, an $83.3 million transaction.
Represented an international software company on the US income tax aspects of an international restructuring.
Represented multi-national electronics company as lead counsel in $55 million breach of contract/tortious interference lawsuit with a former Brazilian distributor and joint venture partner. Favorable settlement after discovery concluded.
Represented electronics company in its defense of a $20 million breach of contract and fraud case brought by a paging company. Jury verdict in favor of client was affirmed on appeal.
Defended a telecommunications company and its principals in a lawsuit brought by a Singapore telecommunications company alleging breach of contract and theft of trade secrets. Obtained a dismissal of all claims without payment of any money to the plaintiff.
