Capabilities / Public Policy, Regulatory, & Government Affairs
Resolving business problems through government affairs experience.
In today’s world, political agendas, government processes, and legislative work are complicated and ever-changing. We know our clients need a clear framework in order for their businesses to operate and plan, and that’s not always readily available. Our Public Policy, Regulatory, & Government Affairs team works to bridge that gap, monitoring regulatory developments, advising clients across industries on compliance, and advocating for client needs and interests before the government and official decision-makers.
As part of our solutions-oriented practice, we work hand-in-hand with clients to use our government affairs experience to secure the answers and adjustments their businesses require in several ways:
- Federal and State Lobbying: We lobby before members and committees of Congress, the executive branch, and agency decision makers to best position clients to achieve their goals – whether those be the inclusion of specifically crafted language in a bill or report, securing authorization changes, or ensuring future oversight of key government programs.
- Regulatory Advocacy Solutions: Our attorneys have decades of experience with the federal government, its agencies, and individual regulators, and we routinely advocate for clients whose organizations qualify for exceptions and waivers. This includes engaging in various agency rulemaking processes and working closely with colleagues across the firm with years of experience and depth of service in the areas of trade, energy, transportation, government contracts, government investigations, and litigation.
- Campaign Finance, Political Ethics, & Election Law: We have particularly deep experience in counseling clients on the rules and best practices related to lobbying, political contributions and political action committees (PACs), gifting, and ethics compliance. We assist clients with required ethics reporting, as well as preparation and review of lobbying and PAC disclosure forms. We also represent clients in enforcement matters before the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and provide litigation support when violations of campaign finance or election laws are alleged.
Our team in Washington, DC, comprises nearly 50 professionals in the areas of government affairs, government contracting, international trade, government compliance, litigation and investigations, energy, and transportation. Many of our attorneys have worked in government themselves, and we draw on a solid network across the federal government to resolve client matters quickly and efficiently.
