National law firm Husch Blackwell is pleased to announce that Chattanooga, Tennessee-based attorney Alan Cates has been honored as a 2024 inductee into the Charles W. “Buz” Dooley Pro Bono Hall of Fame by Legal Aid of East Tennessee (LAET).
Cates is being recognized for his dedication to pro bono service, following in the footsteps of Dooley, who was a fixture at LAET for over a decade. Dooley—who spent 30 years practicing civil defense at Leitner, Williams, Dooley & Napolitan—dedicated every Wednesday to helping low-income clients navigate their legal issues. The majority of Cates’ pro bono work has been dedicated to providing estate planning services, including drafting wills, trusts, and beneficiary deeds, while also offering guidance on tax and nonprofit matters to individuals and organizations.
Cates, a member of the firm’s Financial Services & Capital Markets industry group, focuses his practice on investment management and private wealth matters. With decades of experience, he has guided individuals and businesses in estate planning and business succession planning.
The inductees were celebrated at LAET’s office in Chattanooga on December 12, 2024.
