Husch Blackwell is pleased to announce that Susan M. Seaman has joined the firm as a partner in its Financial Services & Capital Markets industry group. Based in Columbus, Ohio, Seaman focuses on consumer financial services law and will be a resident in The Link, Husch Blackwell’s virtual office. She becomes the 28th new attorney hire of 2021 to join The Link office.

Seaman advises bank and nonbank clients across the breadth of their lending operations, with a special focus on consumer financial services and small business funding regulatory matters. She works closely with clients to develop compliance strategies for the numerous state and federal laws that regulate the marketplace for lending, deposits, and payments. She works hand-in-hand with clients on new product development and maintenance.

Seaman is a frequent speaker and writer on a variety of banking and finance topics, including fintech, small business funding, electronic communications, payment processing, and e-commerce. She is a governing committee member of the Conference of Consumer Finance Law and of the Consumer Financial Services Committee of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section.

“We are excited that Susan chose Husch Blackwell as the firm where she wanted to build her practice,” said Marci Kawski, the leader of Husch Blackwell’s Consumer Financial Services team. “With over two dozen lawyers handling a variety of regulatory and litigation matters, our team collaborates across offices and adjacent practice areas to provide clients with excellent client service and deep subject-matter experience. Our clients will find that Susan is driven by the same client-service ethic as the other members of our team.”

“My family and I are very much connected to Columbus, and it was important to me to find opportunities to build my practice right here in Ohio,” said Seaman. “Husch Blackwell offers all of the resources you’d expect of an Am Law 100 law firm, its Consumer Financial Services team is top-notch, and its Link virtual office made it possible to practice law at the highest level without uprooting my family. My clients are going to be thrilled with the firm’s bench strength and the value proposition we’re able to provide.”
