On October 25, 2022, the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Electricity (OE) issued a request for public comment on its Microgrid Program Strategy. Comments are due November 25, 2022.

The Microgrid Program Strategy began in late 2020 with the purpose of identifying strategic research and development areas for the OE Microgrids R&D Program. The objective of the Microgrid R&D Program is to facilitate transition to a more resilient, reliable, and decarbonized electricity infrastructure in which there is a reduced microgrid implementation cost.

The Microgrid Program Strategy is outlined in seven white papers that examine the gaps and opportunities for microgrids in a ten-year timeframe:

  1. Program Vision, Objectives, and R&D Targets in 5 and 10 years
  2. T&D Co-simulation of Microgrid Impacts and Benefits
  3. Building Blocks for Microgrids
  4. Microgrids as a Building Block for Future Grids
  5. Advanced Microgrid Control and Protection
  6. Integrated Models and Tools for Microgrid Planning and Designs with Operations
  7. Enabling Regulatory and Business Models for Broad Microgrid Deployment

Public comment may be submitted to Dan Ton, Program Manager, at [email protected].
