Hal Katz will present, "Thriving Independently: Strategic Pathways for Rural Hospitals," at the American Hospital Association (AHA) Rural Health Care Leadership Conference on Monday, February 24, 2025.
Rural hospitals are facing many challenges, including encroachment by larger urban and suburban hospitals, declining reimbursement rates, increased operational costs, provider and labor shortages, and shifts in the care delivery model, all of which are impacting a hospital’s ability to maintain its independence. There are options available other than selling to a larger hospital system. This session will explore diverse strategies and models that are proving successful across the country for maintaining independence and local control — including joint ventures, collaborations, diversification of services and innovative care models like "hospitals at home."
