After 20 years inside higher education, Christine helps colleges, universities, and secondary schools stay in compliance with regulations.
With a primary focus on Title IX, as well as equal opportunity requirements, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Section 504, and the Clery Act, Christine counsels higher educational institutions. She assists with policy drafting and implementation, especially as regulations change, and she regularly provides training to internal teams, hearing officers, and investigators. She also assists clients with internal investigations.
Christine began her legal career as a litigator who became increasingly interested in alternative forms of dispute resolution: more than ten years in the courtroom convinced her that litigation was rarely beneficial for either party, and she enrolled in the University of Missouri’s LL.M. program to gain a more thorough understanding of dispute resolution options. Her new degree led to a teaching position at Marquette University, and she was then offered a role as the university’s Title IX coordinator.
Enthusiastic about how much higher education offers to students and energized by the campus environment, Christine pivoted her practice to a focus on civil rights compliance. She went on to direct institutional equity and compliance at Wichita State University and to serve as institutional equity officer, equal opportunity officer, and Title IX coordinator at the University of Oklahoma. Her work at the universities included leading civil rights, Title IX, ADA, and Clery Act compliance; implementing and overseeing trainings; and authoring university-wide policies and procedures.
Clients greatly value Christine’s time inside higher education institutions: she understands their world firsthand, she knows campus culture, and she readily grasps the subtleties of any situation. She’s known as well for her flexible thinking and her ability to find multiple solutions to most matters. Most of all, Christine is known for making clients feel heard, not just listened to, and for taking the time to gather every last detail.
