Joe advises clients on a broad range of corporate finance challenges.
Joe draws upon his deep understanding of tax law and corporate finance to assist clients involved in a broad range of transactions, including fixed loans, revolving lines of credit, derivatives, tax credits, and financing in connection with the purchase and sale of real estate and business assets.
Joe’s corporate finance experience covers both sides of the deal table. He routinely assists banks and other lenders as well as borrowers, drafting and negotiating documentation in support of a variety of financing structures, primarily to support real estate projects. He also represents clients on finance-related matters such as conducting corporate and real estate due diligence, title analyses, and property surveys to mitigate potential issues that could arise during the term of the credit facility. He also provides advice to lenders in the ongoing administration of credit facilities. In addition to finance experience, Joe has advised investors on the ongoing operation and eventual sale of interests in low-income housing located throughout the United States.
Before returning to Husch Blackwell in late 2023, Joe devoted a year to an in-house role as assistant general attorney for Union Pacific Railroad, North America’s premiere freight railroad system. The job gave him an inside understanding of clients’ world, as well as a new perspective on the role of outside counsel: Joe now sees his primary responsibility as providing the information and support that in-house attorneys need to best represent their companies.
Joe’s time with the railroad also offered him an up-close view of a major organization’s long-term strategy, and how individuals transactions play into it. It’s an understanding he now draws on for each client, ensuring that his approach to a transaction fits the client’s overall business goals.
