Husch Blackwell associate Josie Metzler in St. Louis assists nonprofits in obtaining critical IRS 501(c)(3) status, allowing for federal income tax exemption and tax-deductible donations. This legal work opened doors for the Midwest Endometriosis Society, Human Trafficking Rescue Assistance Fund and the David Long Foundation. In a CLE program, Metzler explained the 501(c)(3) filing process to more than 100 attorneys, creating the potential for exponential growth.
Metzler’s other pro bono endeavors include estate planning for an indigent cancer patient, forming endowment funds for Nurses for Newborns and assisting residents of Grace Hill Settlement House with estate planning and probate court appearances. St. Louis Lawyer magazine recognized her as Volunteer Lawyer of the Month for October 2017 by the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis.
