News Releases

Husch Blackwell’s Steve Grasz was nominated by the Trump administration yesterday to serve as a Circuit Judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

Based in the firm’s Omaha office, Grasz focuses his law practice on business litigation, governmental affairs, governmental ethics and election law, and appellate litigation. He has litigated matters before the U.S. Supreme Court and the Nebraska Supreme Court, as well as before the Eighth Circuit, where he has handled a number of high-profile appeals, including a Commerce Clause challenge to a state constitutional amendment and a precedent-setting en banc appeal in a First Amendment case. Prior to joining Husch Blackwell, Steve served as Nebraska’s Chief Deputy Attorney General for nearly 12 years.

Grasz is a member of the firm’s Real Estate, Development & Construction industry group.

The president’s nomination of Grasz to the U.S. Court of Appeals is subject to approval by the U.S. Senate.

“Steve has had an impeccable career as a public servant and a litigator,” said Husch Blackwell CEO and Managing Partner Greg Smith. “He is a person of great intellectual ability and character.  We are very proud of Steve on his nomination for the Eighth Circuit and know that he will be a great addition to the Court.”

Grasz is a 1989 graduate, cum laude, of the University of Nebraska College of Law. He holds a B.S. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, cum laude, graduating from the school’s Agriculture Honors Program.

Grasz’s nomination marks the second time within a month that the current administration has tapped a Husch Blackwell lawyer to fill a high-profile post. In July, partner Jeff Jensen was nominated to lead the U.S. Attorney’s office in St. Louis.
