Beginning as a technical aide in an entry-level engineering position, Sam's initial career path was focused on the intricacies of the healthcare industry at 3M. While passionate about engineering, Sam discovered a preference for legal aspects and supporting inventors.

Sam is particularly enthusiastic about being on the cutting edge of technology, navigating the dynamic landscape of patent prosecution. His role involves regular interaction with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he obtains patents and evaluates client portfolios. While primarily focused on patent prosecution, Sam also has experience with patent litigation, trademark, and copyright matters.

His client experience ranges from solo inventors and entrepreneurs to startup companies and large corporations. Sam takes pride in counseling individuals having varying degrees of familiarity with the foreign and domestic patent systems, demonstrating a versatile skill set.

Sam prides himself on being an attorney who is personable and approachable. Known for thinking critically and getting it right the first time, Sam is a trusted advocate for clients navigating the complex intersection of law and technology.

  • Managed patent portfolios in a timely manner, including tracking deadlines, managing incoming invention disclosure statements, and corresponding with domestic and international patent offices.
  • Provided opinions and reviewing issues relating to patent validity, infringement, and freedom-to-operate.
  • Collaborated with cross-functional teams, including engineers and business stakeholders, to align patent strategy with business goals.
  • Drafted and reviewed legal documents, including contracts, pleadings, and motions.
Outside the Office

Sam is an avid Minnesota sports enthusiast—you can find him regularly cheering on his favorite teams from the stands or engaging in spirited sports discussions with friends. He stays active himself by running, lifting weights, and taking boxing classes.

Sam also loves animals and has two cats, King Tut and Captain Jack, along with a dog named Willow.
